The US Army built the 42nd General Hospital here between 1942 and 1943, a 3,000-bed complex on the Glindemann property between Nursery Road and Gorban Street, and after the war the housing shortage was bad enough that people squatted in the huts until the Queensland Government converted them to official housing in 1947. The rest of the suburb is largely postwar timber, filled in after the tram arrived and effectively complete by the late 1960s. Those houses have small sheds, if any.
